During the Investors Forum 12 young companies had the opportunity to present their company to interesting partners and discuss their business strategy, technology direction and capital-raising plan. On stage of the 18th edition of the Dutch Life Sciences Conference, Spatium Medical became the proud winner of the Investors Forum Prize and was awarded a partnering ticket, national or international, with a total value of €2,500.
About Spatium Medical
Minimally invasive surgery requires surgical workspace for the surgeon, which is created by a gas insufflation device. Current insufflation devices are not able to respond to pressure changes due to breathing and the surgical procedure. Thereby they restrict ventilation of the patient, leading to increased postoperative pain and an expensive prolongation of hospital stay. In some neonates, elderly and obese, insufflation is such a burden that it cannot be safely performed.
In the past 6 years, researcher from Erasmus MC; TU Delft and Politecnico di Milano, have developed new technology to reduce the burden of insufflation and to make laparoscopy available to all. Three patents have been granted. March 2022 spin-off company Spatium Medical incorporated, to bring these new technologies to market.
